Back it Up Jack!

If you haven’t backed up your iPhone or Android device yet, then you may be setting yourself up for one of the biggest headaches you’ve ever had. Don’t believe it? Read on and learn.

I know a guy named Jack. He rides the train with me and does a lot of his work through his phone. His own phone—not a company one. I’m not sure exactly what he does, but I know he sends a lot of files and edits a lot of work-related material on it. Always answers texts and shoots out emails. Well one day last week, we were on the platform waiting for the train—he with phone in one hand and a beer in the other—and he dropped his phone … right onto the tracks.

Now this is off a platform mind you. It’s about a good six-foot drop and it’s in the station—so you can’t just jump down and retrieve it. Jack freaked and everyone stood in mild shock as he tried to figure out what to do. While he stood there looking completely lost, the train came and I had to get on while Jack remained behind. I caught up with him the next day and he told me how he had to go all the way up the escalator to the security station to get some help—which took forever. He missed his next two trains because of it. But that’s not the worst part. The phone was destroyed. And even worse than that, Jack told me he never backed the darn thing up!

So there it is. The reason why you should back up your phone. Thousands of people a year lose all of their contacts, photos, files, passwords, videos, saved stats and more because of cell phone mishaps. Some people drop their phones like Jack—some on tracks, others in water. Other people accidentally delete stuff or unwittingly reset their phones to factory settings without having saved anything first. And many have lost pertinent information due to failed software updates. There’s a hundred ways to lose all of your data on a cell phone, but there’s really just one way to make sure you don’t: back it all up.

The problem with the Cloud and hard drives is that they don’t always get everything and you don’t always remember to back things up. That’s why it’s important that you get your self a good data backup software program—like what Jack didn’t have.

I didn’t mean to rub salt into Jack’s wounds, but when I saw him the next day and he told me how he lost everything, I told him he should’ve backed it all up with a good system and that he should have gone with one called DDI Utilities Extractor, Data Backup and Recovery Software. I have DDI for my phone and it’s been a lifesaver—for my wife too. She had her phone stolen once, but was able to get everything back because she used DDI to recover all of her information and put it on her new phone. Me? I’ve done everything from dropping one phone in the pool to accidently deleting my kid’s graduation photos and each time, DDI has saved my butt.

So before you do what Jack should’ve done, back your phone up with a good backup and recovery software system like DDI. If you don’t, you could be in for a world of hurt. Don’t believe me? Think you’re going to be okay? Well, then you don’t know Jack.
